Out in the countryside you’re slightly at the mercy of the trains. I had a later call time today, so Catie and me went to the gym (I have hardly been at all this year - hope you enjoyed your free money David Lloyd- or is that Ian David Lloyd) and then I was going to hop on the train. But all the trains were cancelled, which is usually a sign that someone has decided to end it all on the train tracks…
So we had to drive home again (as Catie needed the car we were in as she was heading into London for podcasts later) and I picked up the other car and drove in.
As it happens this was actually much easier than the train, although I did pass a fairly horrific recent pile up on the north bound carriageway involving lorries and a car that didn’t seem to have a front bit any more… the day was feeling a little bit cursed.
But I was in early for another enjoyable bit of recording with the lovely Gordon Kennedy (the only other survivor from the 2007 ITV version of this comedy drama). The nice thing about this series is that we’re getting a few scenes outside our regular couples and it’s really fun to work with Gordon, who I’ve been a fan of since his days in Absolutely.
As it turned out I was done with today’s scenes by shortly after lunch so I headed home to write the bit of the script for tomorrow (that I’d planned to write on the train in the way in). So once again I got to bath the kids and try to persuade my daughter to go to sleep, so I could do my work, but she didn’t want to or for me to go, saying that she’d be lonely. I couldn’t tell her that I’d love to stay and play and mess around all night and I was lonely downstairs too. But I drank a couple of beers and extended some scenes and now am only one day away from having this whole series in the can.
And I watched House of Games again to discover that I won an amazing third show on the trot and this time by a few points, rather than a single one (though only because Katie was forced to take some risks to try and win). There was also some fun discussing Uranus with Rachel and Richard and suggesting that the word smash at the end might have been “French Toasthe drugs don’t work”. But what won it for me was realising how the buzzers worked and knowing the exact moment to buzz in when questions got thrown over. I can’t even remember exactly what it was now, but the lead I built up in the first round was crucial…
But it only counts if I win the trophy. And it’s double points tomorrow so I can still fall at the last hurdle unless I finish in the top two. What do you think is going to happen?

If you never got a chance to see the now-out-of-print Hitler Moustache show, then you’re in luck. We now have the rights back so you can buy the download at Go Faster Stripe
I’ve also discovered a very limited supply of the original DVDs, still in their cellophane and will be selling these on ebay over the next few weeks along with the equally rare (in that I only have a few copies left, rather than boxes) programme
Or email me and make an offer!
