Very sad to hear we've lost Parky. A great interviewer, a great Yorkshireman and an inspiration to me, even if he never asked any of his guests if they'd tried to suck their own cock. I met him a couple of times, sitting next to him around the Loose Ends table back in the late 90s or early noughties and more recently at the Morecambe and Wise event in Harpenden, though I was too in awe to talk to him on that occasion and it took me a while to recognise him. Unsurprisingly given he was in his late 80s he looked frail and small, not the strapping handsome man in my memory. But he still had it.
I had hoped to interview him myself at some point, but my enquiries led to nothing, though I would have been as nervous as I was when interviewing that other legendary Yorkshire Michael, Palin.
And now I've thought about losing Michael Palin.
I mean my mum and dad are both from Yorkshire and in their mid to late 80s, but come on, they're no Michael Palin (who agreed to be my new dad anyway).
The decades march on and the cast slowly changes, until eventually they've switched the originals for an entirely different set of people, but no one seems to notice or complain. Even though they repeat all the same plot lines and no one learns anything. I feel sorry for God. What a tedious existence he has having to watch the same things over and over again.
And my parents will live forever, and Michael Palin will live ever longer, so I don't have to worry about that.
I love the eclectic line-ups that the RHLSTP tour is throwing up and how most of the guests confirmed so far have never been on the show before. The Leeds line-up is now complete and joining Amar Latif is the brilliant Corinne Bailey Rae. Hopefully she'll behave better than the musical guest we had on last time. This one already close to selling out,
so book NOW.
