Eight days in and the Zoe app is working out well so far. Apart from on day one, I've hit or nearly hit the target of 75 every day. I thought I'd got a low score on day two, but realised that I'd logged 6 walnuts in my porridge as 6 handfuls of walnuts, which had been too much for the scoring system. Once corrected I jumped from 60 something to 74. Today a meal I considered to be extremely healthy also sent my score plummeting. I finally worked out that I'd entered 100 portions of french beans instead of 100 grams. Computers might be smart, but it says something that the app just casually assumes I'd eaten that many French beans (and good to know that to many French beans are bad for you).
I've lost nearly 2kg in the first 8 days, which I am not surprised about as I've eaten a lot of veg and hardly any bread/potatoes or sweet treats and only two non-alcoholic beers. And it's easy to lose the first few pounds if you've not been taking much care of yourself.
The more remarkable thing is that I've hardly been hungry and I've definitely had more energy. I haven't been sleeping that well, but I still have get up and go, before flagging at about 8pm.
It's very good to have managed finally to flip the switch back to healthy living after about a year of totally failing to manage to do that. And it feels like something I can keep up for the short term at least. Who knows, I might be able to fit back in my posh suit for the RHLSTP tour (though will need to lose 5 more kg in 3 weeks, which might be pushing it).
Anyway it's a recommend so far, but it's not cheap and you won't be able to get your kits til October if you sign up now and it's probably at least a month after that til you start putting everything into practice.
I have, however, not flipped into work mode. I did a long dog walk (finishing off Killing Thatcher) and then watched the Lionesses cruise to victory and then cooked up some non-French beans for lunch.
Then I tidied up the garage and did some gardening, before taking Wolfie out again and doing an evening stone clear, The crops have been harvested, but the straw lies like snow on the ground, so it's still a little tricky to find the stones, but better than before.
Enjoy the stream of consciousness here.
And another Edinburgh RHLSTP with the ideal guest for this show (can't believe he hasn't done it before) Paul Foot. It's a real cracker. Don't miss it.
