My wife and I seem pretty committed to the Park Run. Not only are we paying the girl next door to look after our kids for a couple of hours, we braved wind and rain to get out there today. Even the three drinks that Me2 had consumed to sabotage Me1’s run couldn’t dampen our spirits.
And this week the Park Run had pacemakers to help you achieve your goals - a huge advantage for Me1 in an attempt to break his own record and finally break the 25 minute barrier.
I more or less kept up with the 25 minute runner for the first kilometre, but then he pulled away from me and by the second kilometre was almost caught by the 26 minute runner. I pulled away from her, though she finally over took me as we neared the four kilometre marker. But I haven’t done a sub 26 minute run in 2020 and was still on course to beat Me2’s time last week of about 26 and a half minutes. And Me1 stayed determined and kept up the pace and finished right behind the 26 minute pacemaker (my official time was 26min 04, but I think I was within four seconds of the pacemaker who impressively came in in exactly 26 minutes).
Still a 2020 PB (even if I was about 45 seconds away from Me1’s PB) and Me1 seems to be crushing Me2 at this sport.
Catie’s Me2 beat her Me1 performance of last week too, though I am not sure she takes the whole Me1/Me2 competition as seriously as me. Which is probably why she isn’t as good a runner.
It was a packed day of classes, shopping, a birthday tea and a home cooked dinner and by the evening it felt impossible that the run had happened today. Though after being invigorated for the best part of the day my energy levels were now crashing. But exercise definitely increases contentment, as does hanging around with my family. It’s surprising to think that forcing yourself to go out into horrible weather and then running as fast as you can for 5 kilometres might make you happy. But it seems to. Give it a go if you’re feeling blue.
