Sunday 1st March 2020

My daughter wanted breakfast in bed, so our Sunday started in relaxing style for three of us, lying in bed and watching Oddbods whilst another one of us made tea, coffee and toast and carted it up and downstairs. How did I end up being that one?
But I got to enjoy my bed full of kids and crumbs once I’d completed the third trip. These are the golden times.
But after that we kept the pace up this weekend and attempted a family swim. It’s a lot of organisation to get a family of four out of the house and into the pool, but we managed it without any serious tears or tantrums.  I am not sure it was worth it though. The big pool was pretty cold and though the baby pool was warm, about 15 minutes in Ernie found some loose little tiles on the edge and threw them on to the floor. A lifeguard spotted this and came over and looked to see where they had come from. Ernie hadn’t caused the damage (and I don’t know who had picked them up and just thought that they’d leave them on the side) but he had caused it to be discovered. We all had to get out of the pool as it had to be closed. And so the trip was curtailed for the two of us.
I had forgotten how damp the family changing rooms were and how hard it was to shower and dress myself and a child in these circumstances. But I managed to keep most of our clothes dry through clever employing the baby change table to keep my son out of the puddles.
There was a small soft play at the pool to keep my son occupied whilst we waited for his sister and mum, which is again fun for him, but stressful for me. But we went on to then visit the pet store to pick up food and scratching posts, so we were really pushing our selves to the limits. In parental terms this is like climbing two Mount Everests.
I made everyone burgers from scratch for lunch and then we slowed things down and watched the Horrible Histories movie, which is lots of fun and full of amazing cameos (most remarkably Derek Jacobi playing Claudius). Then another film and some games
By the time the kids were in bed I was more than ready to sleep, but managed to stay awake til 9pm. It’s always nice when the weekend is over so I can get back to work and have a rest.
