An early morning stone clear started a podcast heavy Wednesday (with RHLSTP and Snooker also coming out today) and features another fine new Steve Brown photo.
After 18 mins of intense stone-clearing exercise/dog walking (and it was already boiling hot even though it was before 9am so it was probably good for both me and Wolfie that we weren’t out for too long) I still had more in me. So Catie and me headed to the gym for the first time in nearly 5 months. We were just going to test things out with a short swim, easing ourselves back in gently and checking that exercise like this was viable in a virus ridden world. It was so long since we’d done this that I couldn’t remember the code for my combination lock (though luckily I had left it unclicked last time I used it). And in a win for victims of Herring’s Law (whichever locker you choose in a changing room, when you come back someone will be using the locker directly next to it) only every other locker was available for use. Covid may have had some down sides, but if this becomes a permanent system then we will all have won.
The pool was not too busy luckily, but I was sent back to the changing room initially because I had brought a towel with me, which is no longer allowed. Oh I was so happy about the lockers but then this happened. When a genie grants you a wish there is always a catch. I wondered if the danger of catching Covid from a towel was as great as the danger of slipping up and smashing your head open on a wet changing room floor. But I guess the studies are still ongoing for that issue.
The swim was fine. My eyes stang a bit so I suspect there was more chlorine in the water than usual. A few muscles that have had a good rest thanks to Covid slightly moaned about suddenly being utilised again. But I did 10 sluggish lengths and it felt like an important step (or stroke) forwards.
The tables in the cafe were spaced almost comedically far apart, but the numbers of patrons were way down. We didn’t check out the gym itself though. You can’t wear masks when you’re exercising so I suspect it’s a little less safe up there, but I think I will try to go soon. It’s been impossible to do a run in this heat.

RHLSTP with Nathan Caton is now up on audio
And video

Tonight I recorded a very funny RHLSTP with Sophie Duker which you can wait a month for on podcast or view here.
It was very hot up in the snooker arena tonight and you can watch my crisp clean shirt gradually darken with sweat. If that’s your thing.
