My secret guests at tomorrow's RHLSTP are Mat and Jim from off of Ghosts (I can tell you that because I am writing this on the way home from the gig), so this morning Phoebe and me went to Cineworld in Stevenage to see Ghosts: The Possession of Button House.
It's a lot of fun, loads of laughs (I laughed so much at one point that Phoebe told me off for being embarrassing), but also some lovely moving moments, but maybe I just identify too much with Pat, because he made me cry twice.
Unsurprisingly there weren't loads of people in at this time of day (though the film is number one at the box office and has taken over £2 million in its first weekend) but we were sat near a couple of middle-aged women who were raving about it afterwards and who felt moved to tell the teenager who scanned the tickets how funny the film was. She didn't really know how to take this, perhaps recognising that the success of the movie was not really down to her (though she had scanned the tickets well and been very polite) and she smiled and said she was glad that they had enjoyed it so much. Maybe they thought she would pass on the news to the actors who were possibly waiting in a room somewhere ready to find out what the 10am Stevenage Cineworld audience thought.
Little did those women know that I could pass their review on to someone even closer to the film than the girl who scanned the tickets at the Cineworld in Stevenage. I didn't tell them, but I will let two of the Ghosts know!
It was good that they recognised how great the piece was though and the team do a fantastic job of taking everyone on a journey and combining three or four sub plots into a story full of action and twists. I was disappointed with how long it took me to get the joke in the name of the (living) local MP though.
It's really good and you should go. If you haven't seen Ghosts then a) what have you been doing? and b) it's on iPlayer, so watch a bit first. I have a feeling that the team will go on to even bigger and even better things, but what a crowning glory for a much-loved project. It's so deserved that I am not even jealous. And I can think of no higher accolade.
