A day off that I seemed to pack with more stuff than usual. I played tennis in the early morning sun for the second day in a row and then came home and headed to the gym with Catie. I didn't really need any more exercise, but I did a few weights before hitting the showers.
We then had an early lunch at Wagamamas before going to see Obsession at Cineworld.
Three films under 24 hours - what a world!
I really enjoyed this one, apart from the gory bits which I shut my eyes for. Unlike "The Drama" this was properly funny as well as tense and intriguing. It's a simple and silly premise, which you accept because it's done so well, but it's also great to see a film without any stars in it (but where the actors are all brilliant) that doesn't involve superheroes. We watched the trailer for Supergirl beforehand and it looks like the awful, generic, videogame crap that seems to take up 90% of cinema schedules now. Unimaginable amounts of money spent on stuff you've seen 1000 times before.
Obsession cost something like $700,000 and has taken tens of millions and it would be nice to think that that kind of return might make the money men think it's worth investing in something with good ideas and original takes with great unknowns, rather than the same deck of cards, shuffled a couple of times with actors who will want millions.
In amongst the fun and the violence and the shocks, the film manages to make you think about issues like love and obsession and consent without smashing you over the head with them. It's very disturbing to realise that the guy is aware that the woman he is in a relationship with, underneath it all, is not into this at all and yet he carries on anyway. Not because he is incredibly evil but because he's weak and a coward. How many people would turn a blind eye to the truth if it meant they were getting what they wanted?
Of course, you have to be careful what you wish for.
The cool thing about horror films is that you can go to places that it would be hard to go to in any other genre (as The Drama sort of shows), but also you don't have to worry about having a happy or fair ending. There would certainly be ways to end this film in a way that would provide justice for all or a redo, but what would be the fun in that?
Is this the only kind of film that really reflects the horror and random punishment of the real world?

Managed to toss off a quick Newsround between my date with my wife and my fatherly duties and all whilst making dinner (chicken in oven before, came back to do the roast and veg after I came back). Admittedly there was a slight crossover where I had to leave the kids watching TV without me, but I think this is pretty impressive multi-tasking.
Anyway it's a mammoth Newsround with a brand new catchphrase, which I think might take off (I actually came up with this talking to Catie today, genuinely wanting to thank her for something, but feeling like it needed something extra and then for some reason pulling that name out of thin air for no reason - soon you'll all be wearing the T-shirt. You know who to thank).
