Warming Up

A morning of lounging and reading. I finished the first book of the holiday today - and realised that means I am still really working as it's by a potential guest for Book Club. But it's nice to be physically reading a book, something I don't do to often these days as it's easier to use audiobooks. You get more immersed if you're actually reading though and I enjoyed Emma Doran's tale of teenage pregnancy as I drank Iced Lattes by the swimming pool. I was only mildly distracted by the disconnect between the life documented in the book and the current life of the reader.

After lunch the kids escaped kids' club and we went to dick around on the beach. For anyone doubting how high I have climbed up the showbiz ladder, I think I saw TV presenter Jenni Falconer on the beach, but it might not have been her. That's right Jenni Falconer. Look impressed. And probably some of the other people are on TV in Italy or Russia. Or look like people who are.

Either way, I've made it. Jenni played it cool and pretended not to recognise or even notice me, so I did the same for her. Also it might not have been her. The last thing you want to do on holiday is bother someone for being Jenni Falconer when they aren't Jenni Falconer.

We went back to our room in the late afternoon and before dinner me and the kids just lay on one of the beds and played games on our phone for about 45 minutes. We were all snuggled up and doing our own thing and I can't remember feeling happier. Some might come to Crete to see the ancient ruins or visit an island that was once a leper colony or go water-skiing or visit olive tree farms, but relaxing with my kids and playing Football Manager is what I'm here for. You do what you want on your holiday.
