I worried that doing when doing podcasts in 12 days that the quality might start to suffer as I got more tired and stressed towards the end. But another sell-out today and a very lovely crowd and an even lovelier guest meant that this might be the best one of the run.
I was chatting to David O' Doherty, who, it transpired, won the 2008 Comedy Prize when performing in this very room. It was the basement of the Police Club then. It's now the basement of a nice hotel - maybe we should just have all stayed here... oh no,
I've just checked it's £598 a night for a room with a double bed, which is more expensive than our two bed flat with a lounge (that one of us can sleep in should one of us be snoring - not saying who). And there's no escape in that room from anyone who is snoring. Naming no names.
Anyway DoD is always great value, but he was especially terrific today, I thought. You'll have to wait a little while for the podcast.
Last night I worked out that with the five or so podcasts we've got in the bank from before Edinburgh and the two I'll be doing in Bewdley in October (b
ook now as there are only about 8 tickets left) plus all the ones I am doing at the Stand, I almost have enough shows to last until Christmas (though still need 11 more Book Clubs if we're going to continue to do one of those a week). And that revelation, along with having had an Edinburgh where I haven't felt depressed once (yet), is making me seriously consider doing it all again next year. The revelation (that shouldn't really have been a revelation) that we don't have to put out 12 Edinburgh podcasts in August and can save them up for later in the year has been mind-blowing for me. I can work hard for a couple of weeks and almost take the next 3 months off? Wow.
Anyway, RHLSTP will definitely still be going til the end of the year and I suspect beyond. And maybe... maybe... I'll be back in this room next year. If David can win an award in here then maybe... maybe......
Nah, I don't even want any reviews.
All remaining tickets nearly gone. There's about 11 left for Nish Kumar on Sunday.
BOOK NOW.
The kids leafletted the crowd with leaflets for Catie's show as they came out of my show and have taken to signing the books that I am selling afterwards. And there's a good chance that their autographs will be worth more than mine. Ernie was telling anyone with a beard that they had cobwebs on their faces and when David came out, I gave him a free book and Ernie signed it (he does an illegible squiggle and then writes Ernie), asking his name so he could dedicate it... he's a pro already.
The kids and me went to play with our Bubble Man bubble mixture in St Andrew Sq (after hearing some backstage stories of the rivalries between the two Ed Fringe Bubble people) and then I took them to 5 Guys for an ill-advised burger, chips and milkshake. Good for them, but I felt sick for the rest of the day and night and thought I might pass away in the night.
As we waited for our burgers Ernie looked behind the counter into the kitchen, with quite a concerned and serious expression. "Dad," he said, "There are more than five guys back there." He's 28 years old.
