We're having a few nights in the Lake District while we're up here. It's nice to explore a different part of the UK, but the actual reason we came up here, rather than to the Center Parcs that's less than an hour from our house was that a few months ago the kids were obsessed with asking what the biggest something was. Catie wanted to take them to the Guinness Book of Records experience, but there wasn't one, so she plumped for Ripley's Believe It Or Not. But the London one had closed down and the only UK one is in Blackpool. So we're visiting that on the way home and that's pretty much the reason we've done this huge trip - and we're coming home straight after visiting Ripleys so that will be a big day.
But it's cool to be in the Lake District. We took a little random drive around today as we waited for the Air B n B to be ready and sat on the banks of Lake Windermere, whilst the kids paddled and looked for stones (I have trained them well). Gigging aside I think that the last time I was here was for a brief family holiday with my mum and dad and brother and niece. This incident with the goat made it into my next year's Edinburgh show. This was 20 years ago, I am surprised to learn. That goat is probably dead now. Good. But great to know that my cowardice has not gone away in the last two decades.
We don't have any firm plans until Ripleys, but the kids seemed endlessly entertained by the water and I am not sure they're quite big enough to take on the mountains, so we'll probably get them in their swimming stuff and come down here again.
The Air B n B is small but very nice and because they are having work done on the roof they're letting us have a day for free. I continue to be wiped out by bedtime, though it might partly be because I am persisting with my diet. Though I thought I'd done pretty well today given our lack of choices with food, I got the lowest daily score yet - 39 (though at Centre Parcs managed to average 69 which I am pleased with for all kinds of reasons). I don't think I had much in the way of calories today though. I am very keen to see what my weight is when I get home. What if it's gone up? I won't mind. It's all about feeling good, which I have been. My energy levels have not been as high as when I started but I think that's more to do with dealing with the kids and all the exercise than anything else. I am still a bit confused about which meals score high and which are low and why you can sometimes boost a score by adding something into an otherwise low scoring meal, but we'll get there.
