Wednesday 30th June 2021

I thought it had happened a couple of weeks ago but then I realised my height was wrong on my phone, but this morning my BMI was 29.9 and I was no longer obese. At least until I had breakfast.  Only about 15kg to go and I will be at the top end of my ideal weight . Thanks BM Ian for this wonderful system that is in no way flawed.
But the fitness regime is working well and I seem to be losing 0.1kg pretty much every day, without really feeling I am giving up too much. Poor old plodder Me1 did the 6km run today in just under 47 minutes. That’s probably his 2021 PB but it’s very slow compared to Me2’s (pacemaker assisted) 8 miles at the weekend. Me1 will need to get his act together if he is to be the one running the half marathon in November. I’d let them do half each, but if anyone sees the switch over then we could all be disqualified.
Six months without a drink of alcohol today - not quite half a year (that's about a day and a half away I think). Not missing it yet. This might be it this time. Cut to...

They said it would never happen. Oh no, wait.  They knew me. So they said it would definitely happen, but it shouldn’t. This morning I went out to record the 100th chapter of Stone Clearing
That’s all the beginner chapters done. Next time it gets intermediate.
One day this endeavour will be recognifed for ye geniuf that it if. But my bonef will be amongft the ftones by yen.

I am enjoying my dogging (that’s the abbreviation for dog-walking right), getting out into the open countryside and meeting other people. Some people you see nearly every day and some people, even after four years, you meet for the first time. One of the guys who I see most often and always say hello and seems like a good guy was wearing an “All Lives Matter” T-shirt the other day. Which seemed a bold statement for a countryside walk, but has also made me feel a bit sad. It’s one thing to say it, but to have a T shirt of it made (or even to buy one, or accept one as a gift) is another matter. I think he’s probably an OK guy and he thinks he’s making a different point to the one that he is making, but it makes my heart hurt a bit. Should I say to him - “You know that saying Black Lives Matter doesn’t mean white lives don’t matter? That it’s saying Black Lives Matter As Well. If you’re interested in the equality that you seem to be professing then it is a misstep to stand at odds to that. To try and make it about something else.  Maybe you should read my book…”?
Or should I, as I have, just leave it, because a dog walk isn’t the place for such a discussion and he’s entitled to his position, even if it is odd to pronounce it on a piece of clothing.
I think I’ve made the right choice. Trying to argue about semantics with a stranger as you attempt to stop your dogs fighting out fucking is probably not the right forum for this discussion and I want to live in the world we used to where it was OK for two people (friends even) to think about things differently  without having to excommunicate each other.
But I can’t help it affecting my judgement of who this man I nod at most days and wonder if we should enter a war of dog walking slogan T shirts and see where that leads us. If he wears one saying “When’s International Men’s Day?” then I might need to have a word.

I handed in my latest book today - there should be news of exactly what it is very soon and it will be out in time for Christmas.

RHLSTP with Jessie Cave is now up here or wherever you get your podcasts. It’s a very funny one, but towards the end it gets quite serious and Jessie talks eloquently about the loss of loved ones and sexual assault.  Just so you know, but she does so quite beautifully so I hope you will listen.
