Shit damn, Hitler Moustache has begun. I have no idea how I did it, but I did an hour tonight, with only about ten minutes of old material and it went pretty well. About a million per cent better than I had anticipated, but I had very, very low expectations. It's very embryonic and I am not sure how much of what I did tonight will be in the show, but it is very encouraging to have entertained around 30 people with what was essentially an improvised show. Of course some ideas have been swimming around in the back of my mind and the podcast chats have been useful and the warming up entries about my week with a hitler moustache have some fun ideas in them, but aside from that I had to wade my way through the murky waters of a new and unwritten show. And there are some really interesting areas to explore. You never know, this show might be OK. And it's encouraged me to have at least a few more days with the toothbrush moustache, to see what happens, much as I really don't want to. The story might be enough in itself, plus my rejection of the idea that Hitler's moustache was not responsible for his atrocities, along with my fears that having the moustache might make me evil. I got some really encouraging comments from the audience afterwards. Suddenly seven weeks seems like plenty of time to get this into shape, especially once the book is finally finished. Shoot, this might even be fun.
There are loads of previews coming up. I will update the gig guide when I get a minute.
I exercised my democratic right to vote this afternoon, but there weren't too many options. As I am not racist, just like the BNP, I didn't feel I could vote for the BNP or any of the other anti-immigration, anti-Europe parties who think they are somehow like Winston Churchill - even though he seemed to spend a lot of time fighting fascism. And Labour, who I have stuck with through fat and thin, have either got too fat or too thin. So I plumped for the Green party, despite people telling me they had some anti-science and pro-homeopathy policies. They are also for saving the planet from destruction. And once we've done that, we can put the green idiots straight about the efficacy of alternative medicine. Plus there's an actual chance that they might get a seat or two in this election.
What was more interesting though was that I couldn't locate my voting card, but hoped they'd let me vote if I had some ID. When I got down there though I realised I had left my wallet in my jacket. But it didn't matter, I just had to tell them my name and address and that was good enough for them. That's not much security is it? Anyone could have stolen my vote. Let's ignore the fact that most people seem unwilling to vote even once in any of these elections, that did seem a little lax. But if you want to have a few votes at the next election, just find out a few people's names and addresses and make sure you get to the polling stations early and we can totally cheat this whole democracy crap.
It just doesn't work, let's face it.
