It feels like a very long time since my wife and I have had a significant amount of time to ourselves, but today we took the day off to head to London for lunch and dinner and to watch the hit music Hamilton. I’m not really into musicals or Formula 1 so I didn’t think I’d enjoy it, but anything to make my wife happy.
I ate way too much for lunch at the excellent but expensive Sticks n Sushi restaurant  where I spent most of my time wondering if the other customers did this kind of thing for lunch all the time. All I can say is the set menu for two people could comfortably feed four. I hope one day to be able to be rich enough to eat my lunch in expensive restaurants every day. But for now it was a welcome treat and chicken feed compared to the price of our theatre tickets.
Yet we go out so seldomly now that we can afford to consolidate all our night out budget into one super expensive day and still come out on top. Having kids is a great way to save money. If only they didn’t cost so much this would be fool proof.
I don’t know where the writer of Hamilton did his research but it didn’t have any driving in it at all… shall I stop doing dad jokes now? No, let’s carry on. No, let’s stop. It’s about a different guy called Hamilton and from thence the humour arose.
I am a bit late to the party, but it’s a very good show and an interesting story and a somewhat overlooked historical figure and the man he overshadowed in life. But if you’re not interested in any of that the cast wear very tight trousers so you can look at their bums. I am sophisticated so I enjoyed the story and the history as well as the bums.
I was also distracted by trying to work out how much money they were making if they were selling out the Thursday matinee at these prices. I reckoned that it was probably in excess of £100 profit a day. Pretty nice.
I was still too full from lunch to properly enjoy dinner,  so something very significant has changed in me. I used to be able to stuff my face all the live-long day. But I managed a small repast before we drove home.
We resolved to treat ourselves more often. We are people, not just parents. Who am I kidding?

More guests announced for RHLSTP. On March 16th I will be talking to Ian and Barry from The Parapod Movie and Podcast. This is (surprisingly) selling pretty quickly. Almost like podcasts are a bigger deal than TV these days. Book here.
