I can’t believe I’ve been a monoball for a week now. It’s gone fast. I got to take the dressing off today and the abdominal scar seems fine, though longer than I expected, but the bollock had got pretty big so I guess they had to make room for it. I decided to put on my spare dressing for now as there was a spot of blood, but good to know that there’s no infection or anything.
I made the decision to keep doing RHLSTP (after being unusually organised and having about four guests arranged in advanced) and though it was nice to have something to occupy me, it did knock me out a bit and I needed to go back to sleep in the late afternoon. But I’d done some chores and a bit of home schooling too and so might have slightly overdone things.
It’s been nice to have nothing else on my plate and to stretch the research over a few days. I got through Jeremy Paxman’s audiobook by mid afternoon and had lots of conversation points, though the snooze meant I didn’t quite have the time to prep the direction of the interview, but it’s fun to fly by the seat of one’s pants a little bit.
The most entertaining section of the podcast was probably the half hour before we went on air as Jeremy struggled to make his tech work and was unable to hear anything we said. We managed to record some of this so it will doubtless go up as a bonus in the members area of rhlstp.co.uk (become a monthly badger to access this in a couple of weeks). The laughter made my scar hurt a bit, like I was a Harry Potter triggered by disdainful journalists, but I got through the interview OK. It was slightly difficult to catch everything that was being said with this call and Jeremy was not in the mood to suffer fools gladly (which was always going to be a problem given the host) but as much as he tried to barrack me, I remained largely in control and we got into some interesting areas of discussion, though the conversation did keep returning to underwear and penises and it wasn’t always me driving it in that direction.
Packalackadackdack was in a humorously bolshy mood and refreshing himself with wine, so some of the fun came in the car crashing into a dead end or technology failing us a little (at one point Paxman seemed to be holding the iPad he was using up to his ear), but that’s the joy of RHLSTP especially when we get someone like Paxman who really shouldn’t ever find himself in my world.
So I don’t think my interviewing skills or comedy mojo were located in my right testicle. I was (perhaps understandably) not quite as sharp as I can be, but I was glad to be back in the saddle (even though I’d been advised to keep off any saddles for a fortnight at least).
It might have been a touch early to make a return and I slept well afterwards (once the adrenaline had worn off) but I am not letting this errant bollock get me down, Now do I mean my testicle of Pachahontas?

The really fun chat I had with Iszi Lawrence three weeks ago, when I had two balls, is now up on audio.
And video
You may not be familiar with Iszi but please tune in and then become familiar with her other brilliant work. This is a proper old school sprawling and funny RHLSTP where we get on some pleasing improvised riffs and she’s a great guest.
