The boy’s third birthday party today (he’s three on Monday) and I hope the last one where he is only allowed one guest (though I think I had a few like that in my 20s - only with one fewer guests). But it didn’t seem to dampen the fun and from our point of view a kids’ birthday party with three kids and three adults was actually pretty decent. There was cake and champagne (for the adults) and games and pass the parcel (I didn’t win in spite of my tactic of holding on to the parcel for longer than I should have).
Like all parents I find it impossible to believe that my babies have become children. It also means we’ve been living in this house for three years now. It’s all gone so fast. Apart form 2020 which somehow has almost three months left in it, despite having gone on for 700 weeks.
My daughter has a 2020 calendar in her room. It has a picture of her in last year’s school nativity play and was given to her by her teacher. It’s just the basic one page calendar with all the months on one page. He smiling 2019 face atop the list of all the days of 2020 seems somehow poignant. Like the calendar was mocking her all along. I think I should keep this for her as a moment of a year that many of us started with high hopes that would be (at best) slightly dashed.
A lot of the kids’ birthdays meld into a mush of tiredness and sugar rush, but I think I will remember this one. Though after three hours awake in the middle of the night, I was certainly tired.
We stayed up late though doing a zoom film quiz with our local quizophiles. I was undone by my lack of detailed knowledge about Star Wars (ironically enough given we’ve been watching them this week). Sadly it turned out that C3PO wasn’t unable to speak in the later films “because he was a cunt”. I called the people who did well in this round “nerds”, whilst enjoying the irony. By the end I was so tired I couldn’t think of Cameron Diaz’s name. Though it did come to me just in time, but only because one of the others was chatting about their child Cameron just before we were about to hand in the round.
Senility kicking in?
Certainly.

The Stone Clearing Scout badges have turned up (Chris Evans not that one, will be sending them out once all the rewards are ready) and they look beautiful. These aren’t for sale outside of the kickstarter, so if you didn’t back us then you’re too late, but glad to see that the high quality of our kickstarter rewards is remaining consistent. I guess some may turn up on eBay, but I don’t think you’ll get them cheap.
