A live stone clear to start the day, and I got drenched, but at least I wasn’t caught by the Stasis. No one wants that.
Then I spent the morning helping to ease the snooker kickstarter over the line. And we did it. Which is great news for the comedy clubs we aim to lend a helping hand to with the profits. You still have a few hours to join in if you want the exclusive rewards.
It's nice to be doing one that raises money for other people and as always the generosity of the people who consume my terrible output amazes me. But with the depressing prospect of many more months in this terrible stasis I am wondering if I should devote more time and energy to helping other people through this shit. I have been so lucky this year and only lost a few jobs and even landing a couple that I wouldn't have got. And without the pandemic I very much doubt I would have taken on the experiment of either 32 (now 34) player snooker or Ally and Herring. These things might well destroy me (it's gratifying to see how many people seem genuinely concerned for my mental health - I am mainly only playing of course, but I suppose I wouldn't notice if it all tipped over into reality) but they also seem rich with possibilities.
Otherwise it was a day of cracking through little jobs, like recording some ads for the podcast and sorting out how we’re going to do episode 300 and posting off prizes.
I made an apple crumble with Ernie (though he was hardly any help and his main contribution was to keep me away from the crumble mixture as I attempted to keep him out of the oven.
It was quite a full day of stuff given that I still haven’t caught up on my sleep and seem to be having a two hour waking period at about 2am every morning. It's not helped by so much news happening over night. A lot of people seemed to think Trump is faking Covid 19, and seem to think they are very clever for seeing through his clever scheme. And whilst I understand that it's hard to trust someone who lies so much, I don't think this is a great boost for him. He will be disappointed to discover that he is not so macho that he can defeat the disease).

We watched “The Empire Strikes Back” this evening and Ernie managed to sit still for most of it (though it was a choice of the film or bed). It was maybe a little scary for an almost three year old, and even a five year old (I was hardly scared by any of it though, even the big worm thing with all the teeth). Han Solo is less of a dick in this one, but he does do the classic bit where he answers “I know”, when Leia says she loves him. Which is funny and cool, but come on mate, there was a good chance you were about to die there or at least never see this woman again. It all works out fine if you escape, but otherwise that moment will play over in her mind for the rest of her life as she regrets opening her soul to you and wondering what she saw in such an arsehole and whether you even liked her.
But to be fair, Harrison Ford is so sexy in this film that he could treat me like that and I’d still love him. And if Princess Leia had told me she loved me just as I was about to be frozen in some carbon thing, I would have said, “Oh God, I love you too” and then started crying about the fact that I was probably going to die. And that might have left Leia with some unpleasant final memories of me and snot running out of my nose.
I don’t think I have seen this film all that many times. Loads of it was unfamiliar to me. It’s certainly been a long time since I’ve watched it. My wife was annoyed that I shouted “Mr Bronson” every time that Mr Bronson was on.
He wasn’t on that long before Darth Vader killed him over the videophone. If only Gripper Stebson had had that power.

The penultimate Retro AIOTM went out today. Catch up on all but the very last episode (our next week) here
Series 4 is apocryphal.
