The BBC news site had a pretty click-baity headline which jarred with me a bit today. The headline was “How do I convince the Home Office I am a lesbian?” and above it was an image of two women kissing.
Were they trying to make it look like they were linking to porn? I have a pretty dirty mind, but the implication very much seemed to be that the Home Office could be convinced if the woman started kissing all the women in it, whilst all the men in the Home Office watched to make sure it was all genuine.
Mmm yeah, do it that way. Are you convinced I am a lesbian now?
No, I think you’ll have to convince me just a little bit more.
I didn’t read the story as I was too busy imagining the scenario that the headline suggested, but I suspect it was a more serious story than that.
Maybe my tweet about it brought about a rethink or maybe others were concerned about the tone of the headline, as a few hours later the headline had change to “How do I prove a thing I’ve tried to hide my whole life?”
It still had the picture of kissing ladies, which might have been enough for the 14 year old me, but the jaded 52 year old me needs a lot more than that. Preferably entire government departments behaving incredibly inappropriately. Lucky for me Boris Johnson is PM so there will be plenty for me to get off to over the next four years,

I had an enjoyable interview with the brilliant Michael Fenton-Stevens this morning, who came round to chat to me for a new podcast he’s putting together. I’ll let you know when it goes up, but he’s a charming man and I was a big fan of Radioactive (plus he had some nice anecdotes about Rik Mayall) so it was a thrill to be chatting to him.
And then I did some work in booking up the remaining RHLSTP dates.
Here are the current line-ups for the London run

RHLSTP of doom and gloom, but hopefully some laughs and hope with George Monbiot is now up on audio.
