Second jab is now coursing around my blood stream and though this time it briefly throbbed after being administered there are no other obvious side effects as yet. And the lady giving me the jab was much brisker and matter of fact in the job, not really even warning me that it was coming. I don’t mind though. I am very grateful to everyone involved (especially the scientists who have given us a shot - geddit - at normality). I got a letter yesterday reminding me that I am considered more at risk of Covid due to my chemo (my immune system is supposedly compromised, but I have rarely felt better than I do now and have only picked up a minor bug in the couple of months since I underwent the therapy), so it’s good to have this full shield (takes two weeks to take full effect) and to know that I am now effectively immortal.
There was no queue at all at the vaccine centre - in fact it seemed that all 8 bays were empty when I came through and I was in and out of the place in under 3 minutes. I don’t know if that means that people aren’t taking up the vaccine in enough numbers. I hope not. People with compromised immune systems really need us to reach herd immunity. It’s fast and it’s fun and it stops you getting the plague (or at least prevents you dying from it) and you get a sticker, so come on down.
Luckily for my immune system, ticket sales for Monday are fairly low, so I am not putting myself at too much risk! I am trying to persuade the theatre to sell individual tickets too, as there will be room for solo patrons to be socially distanced. There’s enough in to have some fun and just the fact that tickets have been sold is a remarkable and wonderful turn of events. Join us for the party here

I didn’t get too much work done today, but I did record some intros and an ad read for RHLSTP. I did another read based on me being the world’s biggest collector of Thundercats figurines and it really makes me happy. It’s always a risk doing something like this as the advertiser might come back and say they want something more sensible. They are wrong to say that though as I know my audience and you guys will enjoy it. And not mind hearing it three or four times.
I’ve been listening to David Baddiel’s Jews Don’t Count on audiobook during dog walks today and it’s an excellent listen. Not very funny though. But I don’t think that was the intention. It’s a short book, probably shorter than my last one, but in the same vein - an extended essay by a comedian about a serious and topical subject and this, alongside Mae Martin’s book and Geoff Norcott’s as well, make me wonder if comedians are now the best placed people to right works explaining every day politics. They know how to keep it moving, interesting and entertaining and are generally good at logical argument. David makes some excellent points about how and why anti-semitism is not seen as being as racist as other racism. But why it is as bad and how engrained that prejudice is. Very much worth your time, and it won’t take up much of it. I am hoping David might be a guest on this upcoming run of RHLSTP.
