Oh my sweet baby Jesus. I slept in until 9.45am today. Admittedly I went to bed at about 1.30am, but even so, I usually still have to get up at 6 or if I am very lucky 7, but I’d gone up to the guest room in the attic and my wife didn’t wake me up (and I only briefly stirred at 6 when my son entered wakefulness like an operatic choir).
I didn’t feel very good, if truth be told, as I must have been confused by the amount of sleep I’d had and I came close to being late for my appointments in town, but I obviously needed it.
I had a couple of interviews to do in an attempt to drum up custom for the tour, the first was for the podcast Desert Island Dicks (where does he get his crazy ideas?), which was a fun hour discussing the things and people that I hate the most. It’s already up as a podcast, so you can hear what I chose.
Then I walked through Hoxton to be interviewed by a very charming man from Waitrose magazine. On talking to him I realised that in my long sleep last night I’d had a dream that I’d discovered a new local branch of Waitrose and expected it to be a small one, but it was massive. I rang my wife in the dream to tell her. That is how exciting this all was.
We had a good long chat about my career, why I chose to do podcasts and my blog being in the British Library.
But my most exciting discovery of the day was that there was a train direct from Welwyn Garden City to Old Street. It’s only taken me two years to find out and I only discovered it because I was early for the train I intended to get and this one was leaving from the adjacent platform. I didn’t even know Old Street had an overground rail bit (though it is underground). I am not entirely sure that it does. I think it might be a ghost service that only appears once every hundred years.
The RHLSTP kickstarter has stalled a little bit. Still plenty of time to donate, but if we don’t hit the target then we make nothing (and will have to stop filming the podcasts) Donate here.

Another RHLSTP has been added at the Manchester Podcast festival on 2nd November. We sold out in double quick time last year, so book now if you want to come.
