I was right to be relaxed about the script. I got to work at around 8am and had finished by 10 and managed to write what turned out to be the best sketch of the audio show in 20 minutes, with no need to go back and edit. Ben Elton would be proud of me.

Nazi sympathiser Chris Evans (not that one) had brought in some of the excess Kickstarter AIOTM T-shirts and tea-towels today and gave one each to all the cast and crew. It was rather funny and heartwarming to see so many people walking around in “I Love AIOTM” shirts (though less so when they turned around because it says “<Aside> I don’t really, I hate AIOTM” on the back. A limited number of these will be available for sale at the Leicester Square Theatre gigs and on gofasterstripe.com. Snap them up if you can. The cumpkin tea-towel is the perfect Christmas gift.

By necessity we are trying to spend as little money as possible on the studio bits of the show, and I was delighted that we reused the terrible lawyer costumes from episode 2 to be worn by the Founding Fathers in a sketch in this episode. To add to historical accuracy Dan tucked his trousers into his socks. This made Emma and me laugh for about ten minutes. Much more than the audience laughed at it or the actual sketch. But this homemade quality is what makes me love this show.

The M of the AIOTM scenery was knocked over and nearly nudged Christian off his podium during rehearsals. Thankfully he was unscathed. The three songs he did today were the highlights of the two shows. That’s the only reason I am glad he wasn’t killed. The show would have gone on without him, in his  memory. His Flat Stanley body propped up at the back in memoriam.

I had a headache and was very tired, but backstage we hoovered up our stash of rare Haribo sweets. It made me laugh. The AIOTM team are perhaps not the most showbiz of people. Other comedians might have a special kind of sherbet on their rider, but the only rush we were looking for was a sugar one. To be honest it didn’t help. I am getting too old for this sugary shit and was sick in my mouth during the recording. Be careful with the Haribo kids. Some people think they can handle it, but it will get to you.

It was a solid enough fourth show. The thing that went down the best was probably the Five Little Monkeys animation, beautifully brought to life by Chay Hawes (with Christian and me doing the singing and speaking). It’s hard to get a sense of the complete episodes as we still have stuff to animate, film and edit, but it’s gratifying to see the stuff we’ve been working on away from the audience getting a good response.

Delighted to have got another one under our belts. The audio will be up almost immediately, the video will take a few months. Still two more shows to go. Be lovely to see you there if you’re in the vicinity or support us by buying some merch or a pass to the extras channel.
