There aren't many TV shows that I really want to go on. I'd like to have a shot at Would I Lie To You? and I am surprised I've never been asked on QI. I'd also be very happy to do Taskmaster Champion of Champion of Champions and it's a while since I've been on any quiz shows (but Beat the Chasers is maybe the only one left open to me).
I think I've been quite lucky with what I've got to do in the past: having a go on Mastermind, several goes on Pointless, a couple of HIGNFYs and a couple of Buzzcocks, as well as Taskmaster and Gone Fishing. If it happened all the time it would lose the magic and if you're a panel show regular there's a danger you enjoy the cushy life and lose your invention. I've got to be trained by Olympic rowers and present episodes of Top of the Pops and apparently even been in the Cbeebies Broom Cupboard (I have no memory of this, but saw a reference to it the other day in an old blog).
I am happy to do TV when the opportunity arises (and there's a couple of bits coming up next year - though it's been a couple of years since I've been on the Idiot's Lantern), but there's now another show that I'd love to do (but doubt I will get the chance.
I am obsessed with Celebrity Traitors. It's such a brilliant show: funny, exciting, tense, infuriating and a wonderful glimpse into the human psyche. It would be such an immersive game to play though. Although it's a bit of nonsense, the people involved take it incredibly seriously and I am no surprised.
I would take it very seriously too and I think I would be relatively good at it (easy to be relatively good as a faithful compared to this lot, though the Traitors have generally speaking played a blinder). It's an easy game to play when you know who the Traitors are, of course, but I feel that I'd at least have spotted that Jonathan Ross was lying about the alliance thing. When the others in that conversation all turned out to be faithfuls, you'd have to conclude that there was at least a chance that it made him a Traitor (also he didn't need to lie about it - even as a Traitor - as it was a chat that happened before they were picked and was by no means a contractual obligation, so it's doubly weird that he tried to pretend it didn't happen).
There isn't enough logic going on in this - when Clare seemed to sabotage the first task, you have to ask what would she have to gain from doing so? The Traitors want to make money as much as the Faithful and it doesn't give them much of an advantage to get rid of one shield, especially that early on.
It would be interesting to see how you reacted it you were part of it. I think it will always involve bigger celebrities than I am ever likely to become, but I am more likely to be on it than you are (I happen to know that no celebrities read this blog or know who I am), so shut your face.
There's no real incentive to find the Traitors straight away (luckily for this lot), though it might have been helpful to get one by now and they've only really come close to getting one of them. The real game, as only Nick seems to understand (though he might have blown it tonight) is to stay in as long as you can, work out who the Traitors are, but also keep in the people who are going to raise the most money. The Traitors don't seem to have any tactics for working together to oust people at the round table (though that's probably a good idea), though three votes would usually be enough to get someone into big trouble. I'd be analysing voting patterns a bit more than anyone seems to be if I was a Faithful, though not sure it would be immediately helpful in this case where so many people are vacillating so much. Jonathan's last minute changes of mind should be a clue, except lots of people are doing the same.
I am very annoyed to say that Ed Gamble is doing a good job in the Traitors Uncloaked and it's funny to see a podcast format being broadcast on TV (even with podcast mics), but also feels like a little victory for podcasts. I hoped I could get through my life without ever complimenting Ed and to be fair his career so far has made that very easy, but in this, I will admit, he is quite good.
I've just been sick in my mouth.
Anyway, if I am ever in the show I am going to insist that they film me in the shower for that bit where you see the Faithful in their bedrooms. I think if they show anyone in the shower they should have to show everyone in the shower.
