I started the day with Chapter 72 of Stone Clearing and got so pensive about philosophy that I actually forgot I was podcasting for a big chunk and was quiet. But to many those are the best bits of the podcast. Especially if you're trying to sleep.  If you've enjoyed the 73 eps and the dozens of Twitch streams and think they are worth 10p each, why not stick a tenner in the kickstarter (I don't think we're going to make it this time, so you can have the surge of pride in donating and probably not actually have to pay out any money)
This afternoon we went on a summer holiday trip to Woburn Safari Park. We were hoping that monkeys would jump all over our car and rip off our windscreen wipers (apart from Phoebe who was worried that that would mean we had to take one home and look after it) but sadly the monkeys respected our property and just did back flips off trees, climbed along zip wires and played with their monkey genitals. They did get on a couple of other people's cars for a ride. We were well jel.
It was a pretty good social distanced day out (at least until we got to the attractions at the end) as we were all in our bubble cars. I was surprised to see how many people ignored the rule about keeping windows closed. As we headed into the tiger enclosure the car in front of us not only had its window open, but a toddler had their head sticking out of the window. I thought we were about to get an additional level of entertainment that we hadn't paid for, plus if we filmed this we could probably make a fair amount of money from the footage.
Sadly the windows were finally closed before we went through the final gate. But even in the monkey enclosure people were being warned to close their windows by an angry looking employee in a land-rover. It was a bit hot but that takes a level of idiocy that is hard to believe. Even my daughter called them dummies.
We saw tigers and lion cubs and the paw of a bear lying in its shelter and elephants and giraffes. It was a pretty solid afternoon out.
It filled me with memories of going to Longleat Safari Park as a kid and my grandad almost getting bitten by a camel that he tried to pet (this was in a bit that you were allowed to walk around in) and seeing lions lounging around and I am pretty sure we did get monkeys on our car, but it doesn't matter if it's true because that's how my memory has filed it.
I was a little older than my kids when I went on that trip, but it was a day that has stuck with me, so maybe they will remember this too. I don't remember much any more, but I suspect this will make it into my limited memory banks too.
It's a pretty decent day out for non-covid times, as there's lots to do outside of the park and you can drive round the safari bit as many times as you like. And it feels like the animals are reasonably happy. Definitely the wanking monkeys. Imagine that being your job. Hard to think of anything better.
Another thrilling frame of snooker between Me1 and Me2, though very disappointing sportsmenship (and a bit of a mic issue). You can watch here or wait for the audio podcast on Tuesday (or catch it on Youtube).
