Wednesday 13th August 2008

I took my second and third cabs of the festival today, but only to the hospital and back, which was some way out of town and not realistically walkable in my delicate condition.
My guess was that I would be told that there was no way of ascertaining whether I had chipped a bone or torn a muscle and that either way there would be nothing they could do for me, but I thought it was best to check there was nothing more serious going on.
I was seen pretty quickly and was told exactly what I had anticipated, but the doctor confirmed that I did not have any chips of bone lodged in my lungs. she gave me a free packet of paracetemol (which had only cost me the £25 I had spent on cabs) and sent me on my way, saying I had a few days of pain if it was a muscle injury, but a month if the rib was cracked. My guess is that it's the former. Indeed, as I write this early on Thursday morning, the pain has subsided significantly. Maybe the paracetemol is doing its job or maybe I am just relieved that it's not serious and have stopped thinking about it so much.
Things were much more comfortable on stage tonight at least and it was another enjoyable show.
I rested up for the rest of the day and got on with putting limited edition programmes in envelopes for the generous benefactors who donated to the cause. Loads of people either haven't sent me their address or it has got lost in the system. I will put a list of names up soon. Worryingly a few people seem to have sent me their address, but their names aren't in the programme, so please accept my apologies if I have made a mistake. I will try to post the first load off tomorrow, so most of you should be getting your package by early next week. Thanks again for all the support. The collection at gigs is going very well too, so many thanks if you've donated there.
As things have been going well I have (perhaps foolishly) decided not to have a day off, so there are now tickets available at the Underbelly for the 20th August. I think there are tickets left for all shows (though the weekend is nearly sold out already), so do book ahead if you want to come. I imagine that that Wednesday will be quiet, but I'd rather not have a day off to be honest, especially one so late in the day.
Not much to tell you about today. I was mainly recuperating. And eating sweets. But hopefully tomorrow will be a more interesting day. I am still loving doing the show and people are saying some lovely things about it. It's all good. I can still be rib tickling, even if my own ribs may be crackling.
And I think I am going to get through this whole thing without any chips or sas. That would be something.
