After a very tough PT session yesterday, I almost totally destroyed myself with a slightly plodding Park Run this morning. I don’t quite know how I managed it at all, but spent the rest of the day regretting it. It was Saturday so there was nowhere to hide. I played football with my daughter whilst my son was “the judge”. He took his judging duties seriously, taking off all his clothes and sitting in the sand pit and coating himself in wet sand, just like every proper football judge does. I got 4-2 up in the football (as always the goal I was defending was big and the goal my daughter was defending was smaller than her) and scored an amazing goal where I flicked up one of her shots and volleyed it into her goal while she was out of position. If Southgate had seen that I could have been playing for England tonight. The judge smeared Phoebe’s goal with sand, saying it was sun cream, again following the football judge rulebook to the letter.
The game ended when Catie returned from the dog walk. Phoebe won 7-5. Catie looked at the football judge and instead of being amazed at how well a 4 year old had done in this role,  wondered what the Hell had been going on in her absence. But sometimes you need to cover yourself in sand. You just do. I hosed the kids down and they then had a bath and we watched the final Harry Potter film. As it ended we made the impetuous decision to see if we could go to the Harry Potter studio tour tomorrow. Though it is pretty much sold out throughout the summer, there were tickets available for 3pm, so we went for it. Incredibly it is very nearly 10 years since the last time we went and discovered my hand is the same size of Hermione’s hand. It’s weird to think that we had no kids then.
I think Phoebe and Ernie will like it, but its’ £159 for a family ticket and I don’t think we’ll get through the gift shop with any money left in our pockets (though the joke’s on JK Rowling - last time I bought a Slytherin notebook for about £20 but ended up using it as a RHLSTP notebook and selling it for over £1000 (we put the money towards making more podcasts).
I think this is our last weekend til the end of August where we didn’t have something planned, so it was cool to be spontaneous, even if I could really do with sleeping all Sunday. Sometimes you have to cover yourself in wet sand and see what happens.
