I've joined Twitter. Look me up if you're on it. I am Herring1967. It is a great new world of procrastination for me and if one Warming Up a day isn't enough for you, you can get little 140 character mini-blogs throughout the day. I've even (eventually) managed to put on an rss feed to this blog. I am old and most of this confuses me, but I felt the same about all the social networking sites and facebook has been dominating for too long. It's time for a new one. Let me know if there are any good celebs out there to follow - got Fry and Ross obviously, but they've been a bit dull thus far.
I was unfaithful to my broken car today. The minute it can't do the physical things I demand of it, I am off paying for another car to take me to Tewkesbury and back. There is nothing filthier that you can do with a car than that.
For less that forty pounds a day I can try out a totally different car and ride it as far and hard as I like. I will go back to my regular car once its box is working, but I am a man, with a man's needs. And I needed to be in Tewkesbury.
The hire car was fine. I didn't like it as much as my own car and it felt weird driving one of the new numberplate aberrations. My car is a Y reg and has the old style lay out. This car is an 08 and thus useless for any self-respecting CNPS Spotter. I felt like I was being more than unfaithful to my spouse, but also betraying my strongest held principles. And when I am driving my own car, with its proper 336 number, I have taken to giving a little nod of acknowledgment to the other (increasingly rare) 336 drivers. What I like about this is that they can't really have any possible idea of why they are being acknowledged. If it is the same model of car then it might be appropriate to give a little nod or a wink, but the same number on a numberplate is a harder coincidence to spot. Yet I see myself in the 336 club and what if I inadvertently gave a little puckered kiss to a 336 driver today, forgetting I was in an 08. The one person who might have understood what I was doing would think I had turned into some manically laughing Kental.
Luckily I didn't see a 336 today.
It could have been awful.
The gig at the Roses Theatre went well. The Tewkers seemed to like it - or at least the few of them who turned up. It's the first time I've been here and I was pleased to get over 100 in, though hopefully there will more at some of the venues that I have played before. But this is a lovely show to do and I am really looking forward to getting my teeth into it over the next few months. I am adding new things and remembering bits I'd forgotten and readding things that got cut out in the preview process. I think it's the best solo show yet, but much of that is to do with my increasing confidence as a performer. It's really cool to sense the audience hanging on every word and engaging with the story and generally not mind when I talk about paedophile wanking.... I hope you'll come and see it at some point.
The long drive home was a small taste of what I have in store for me. I hope my old car is up to it. Just one more spin baby and then maybe we'll give you to someone who won't abuse you so badly and then shoot off with the first interloper with an inviting tail-pipe that comes along.
