Saturday 24th April 2010

A little bit hungover this morning, but surprisingly full of energy (perhaps I was still drunk) and I didn't mind having to get up at 7 for the Collins and Herring show. It was great both not to have come from an out of town gig last night or have to dash off to drive to another one. I think it was one of the better shows, with some great contributions about growing old from our listeners and Collings managing to be pretty funny for once, when talking about his dad's pants, now being used as cleaning rags, having a homeopathic style memory of what had once been in them.
I was also on the front page of the newspaper (admittedly just the Family Section of the Guardian, but that's something) with an extract from my upcoming book. I got a lot of positive response (as well as the expected occasional person criticising me for being so pathetic - as if the piece doesn't acknowledge that) and it's a nice little boost which hopefully might lead to some sales. I can't quite believe that this book will be out in less than a fortnight. Will it be a success or be in the bargain book shops in August or being made into filler on our roads, like I imagine most of the copies of Talking Cock ended up. Only you can decide.
And was very impressed to get home and find the tax disc that I had bought on Wednesday evening had already arrived. It's almost as an impressive a turnaround as gofasterstripe and I imagine that the car tax people have slightly more orders to get through (though possibly it's not run by one person). Anything that stops me having to queue up in the Post Office is improving my life no end.
I spent the rest of the day rillling and trying to ignore the nagging hangover (which was still nowhere near as bad as I had feared it would be). This was the first Saturday since January 16th that I wasn't going to be performing in the evening and I was delighted just to slob out on the sofa and watch some telly. I finally got round to watching "The Wrestler" which I bought months ago which was enjoyable stuff, though I didn't enjoy the gory bits so much. And Marisa Tomei does some good work in showing the world that you can still look amazing when you're in your 40s.
