I still haven't rung anyone to mend my kitchen wall. And now my central heating has packed in. Also my door bell has stopped working and my desk top computer is broken. Many of these things have been wrong for weeks and months, but still I have got no further than making a to do list. I did ring up some central heating repairers last week, but I didn't have a time when I could guarantee I would be in the house. Also they all wanted paying by the hour or even half-hour. I would like to employ someone who will just tell me how much the job will cost and then do it. If I pay him by the half hour, then surely it is in his interest to make the repairs last as long as possible. What's to stop him taking twenty years to mend my central heating and then present me with a massive bill at the end? I hate workmen. They always rip me off.
So there's a part of me that thinks that I'll just let the central heating slide and wear my coat indoors. And then when my kitchen wall collapses I will just not go in that room. Having no door bell means that people already can't come and call on me. I will be like a frozen Miss Haversham.
Alternatively I will get on with all this once the radio show is over and I'm not gigging so much and can guarantee that I will be in. I think maybe the winter will convince me that it doesn't matter how much the workmen charge, I need them to mend my stuff.
If only I'd paid more attention in woodwork and metalwork at school maybe I could do this stuff myself.
As it is I've made some great to do lists. That is my skill. If anyone can't be bothered to make their own to do lists you can employ me to do them for you. I charge by the half hour.
