I managed to sleep for three or more hours which I was very pleased with. I don't usually sleep too well on planes, but on the way here Glenn Wool had persuaded me to buy one of those silly cushions that you blow up and wear around your neck and despite my reservations it really helped. Even if you look a bit of an idiot. But if you but one make sure you don't wear it when you're just walking around the plane. It's the airborne equivalent of wearing a cycle helmet when you're not on your bike.
Anyway I had a good kip and we were soon back in the UK, the old plane amazingly making it in one piece. Though in keeping with the age of the plane we had to get a bus from the plane back to the terminal, which I can't remember ever having had to do at Heathrow.
I had been slightly concerned by news of the floods in the UK, not because I care about anyone else, but because my cellar is prone to flooding in heavy rain. I had visions of inches of water filling the basement. I almost forgot to check once I was back, but after half an hour I headed down to see if everything was ruined. Luckily though it wasn't too bad. It was clear that water had again come up through the shower as there was dirt in there and on the bathroom floor, but nothing else was damp and whatever water there had been had seeped away, without seemingly causing any damage. Still, I think that I had suffered more than anyone else has in these awful floods. I would have some dirt on my bathroom floor which would need to be tidied up. And my cleaner doesn't come until Thursday, so it will be dirty til then. Because there's no way I can do it. I would love to hear any story worse than that. On top of me having to fly in a plane with an archaic video system I think you will agree that no-one has a worse life than me.
