Days Without Alcohol 54.

After the blistering gig in Cardiff, tonight in Reading was a bit of an anti-climax with a quiet crowd who seemed a bit shockable. It is a small venue and had sold out weeks ago, so maybe there were more regular theatre patrons than Richard Herring fans. But they came back for the second half and things got a bit better. I don't think I was particularly brilliant tonight either, which didn't help. But it was fine in the end, just a timely nudge back down to earth. I will better tomorrow.
I drove home, once I had managed to find my way out of town (quite tricky even with sat nav due to post gig dippiness and a complicated ring road system) listening to Radio 2, discovering that I was about to be a guest on the Jack Docherty show. Which wasn't entirely a surprise as I had recorded said interview this afternoon, but it was still a bit of a jolt. I was going to travel a few hours into the past and revisit the pre-Reading gig me. What a young and innocent fool I was then.
The interview had been great fun. There seems to be an affinity between me and the ex-Absolutely team members that I have met. They, at least, are all lovely. It's been a while since I have seen Jack - I think the last time might have been when he interviewed Stew and me on his Channel 5 chat show. Which dates it on a couple of levels.
There was a bit of excitement in the studios as Ricky Gervais was being interviewed on the Steve Wright show. I looked through the glass and watched them for a few seconds. I later heard part of this interview on my drive to the gig, so unless it was a very long chat I suspect that this was also a pre-record. Though both interviews were played in as if they were live. Radio is full of lies. You'd think that the BBC would have learned its lesson by now! Of course practicalities dictate that this is a necessity of broadcast. But I wonder how many people realise it.
