The grandparents set the kids to work, getting them to rake up leaves in the garden and put them in a wheelbarrow and the kids loved it. Partly because they were being given slightly dangerous garden implements, but mainly because they loved doing stuff with their Grandma. I told them that they could rake up leaves at home any time, but I know they won’t be interested then.
My achilles tendon is pretty much OK now, but after this week’s personal training session I’ve had a pain somewhere between my lower back and right hip. It’s made sleeping a bit difficult as it’s hard to find a comfortable position. And this is life now, isn’t it? One pain replaced by another. Maybe eventually just one pair added to another until the whole body is wracked with agony and you will your own death.
We had a mini Christmas lunch with crackers and party poppers. My daughter was keen to read out the (terrible) jokes (including the classic Dracula “con medicine” misprint - though I think it made as much sense as any of them to the kids. Phoebe got annoyed when I knew the answer to one of the hoary old riddles. But I am glad to see she is into telling jokes. My plan for one of my sperms to win the Perrier Award is looking good. They’re both pretty funny.
We were only in Cheddar for 24 hours, but it was worth the visit, even though the drive home was pretty horrible, with the M4 closed and a bad accident (on the other carriageway) on (I think) the M25. The drive got hard just as darkness and tiredness closed in. My son found it most frustrating, even though he slept for the first two hours of the journey. I’d have liked to sleep for a couple of hours mate.
We somehow got them fed and into bed, but we didn’t have much more left in us.
Typically I couldn’t’ get to sleep despite my tiredness. Ah for the stress free life of the four year old.
