The jury’s still out on my Garmin vivoactive watch. The battery life was great to begin with and lasted for about ten days even in gps mode. But in the last couple of days it’s suddenly turned into an Apple battery and I am getting about 10 hours of use out of it. Which makes it a much less attractive proposition. I will persevere, but my guarded recommendation of a couple of weeks ago is now less glowing.
Phoebe is four months old today and when I tried to run back home from Ladbroke Grove it was clear how much the sleepless nights and lack of exercise have taken their toll. I managed about ten minutes of slow running before having to walk the rest of the way. I feel like I am in a sci-fi story where as she grows I put on exactly the amount of weight that she does. It’s annoying at the moment whilst she’s still relatively light, but by the time she’s a teenager I will be the size of a house. I hope I can turn it around again, though I seem to be on a slippery slope. It’ll be a shame if all last year’s hard work is (as usual) for nothing and I don’t think I will be beating my personal best when I do the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October (I am not convinced I will even get round). I may hold the record for the most improved followed by the worst possible time over two consecutive years.
If my life teaches me anything it is that there is very little point in dieting. But it also teaches me that there is very little point in living. So it’s best to pretend there is hope of change or meaning or we’ve just got nothing.
An interview I did with the Big Issue about Me1 Vs Me2 snooker has been published. Once again they’ve made it look like I’ve written it - something they did to my annoyance after all the kerfuffle with the “mong” debate. It was more annoying that time because it had been an interview about loads of other stuff and I had only briefly chatted about what was going on, having deliberately avoided writing or talking about it in the media. The snooker interview had been a lot of fun and I had summed up well what the self-playing game mean to me and why I was doing this. I remember thinking it would be hard for the journalist to get it all down (and I wish I’d recorded it in hindsight, if only so I could play it to myself every now and again to remind me why this podcast wasn’t a total waste of time). But he’s not done  a bad job of summarising it all. And it’s good to see the sport being written about in the national press.
The first episode of the new series of RHLSTP went up today and seems to be getting a very good reaction. The guest is Bob Mortimer and it’s available on video on youtube, vimeo and iTunes and audio at the British Comedy Guide and iTunes
