Warming Up
Friday 14th October 2011

Jobs was good to me. All technology was on my side today and even my brain started to play along a little bit. This was a tough script to write and one that I was really anxious to do well: to make my points about disability, but also to make sure there were laughs and the enormity of the task and the limited time available both made me sick with terror and also somehow drag 75% of the stuff together, almost form nowhere. It feels a bit like someone is bowling cricket balls at your head every waking minute - most of them you dodge, some of them hit you in the face, but occasionally you suddenly catch one with your bat and send it sailing into the pavilion. Is there any point in me wishing it didn't like have to be this any more? Any question that I am incapable of sitting down for four hours a day and just writing without putting myself through this? No there isn't. This is how it must be shall. But one of these days, surely, I am going to fail to come up with the goods. By the end of today it was by no means certain that I'd definitely finish - I would have to get up early tomorrow to work as well. But it felt like a manageable last stretch now, which was not the case when I woke up.

More incredibly still at 5pm my girlfriend and I decided to go out for a 3 mile run. I thought the completion of the half marathon might signal the end of our jogs, but she was keen to do it and I thought it might be helpful to get out of the house and feel the setting sun on my skin and breathe the filthy air of London. And with such a puny distance to travel we set off at quite a lick and it felt gooood! Weirdly less than half a mile from home my legs felt heavy and I had to stop and walk for a bit, but I guess it's been quite a full on week and it's not surprising I got tired.

I wish I had more for you, but I was too busy even to stop off and enjoy the departure of Dr Fox. When you're too busy to gloat and laugh then you know things have got serious.

Why can't I work 10 til 4 every day instead of 8am til 11pm at the last minute. It's because I am a massive dick, if you were wondering. But if it ain't broke don't fix it. Even if eventually it will surely break you.

Here's another clip from the Christ on a Bike DVD. You can preorder the 3 disc set exclusively from at Go Faster Stripe. It's even got subtitles in Italian for all my fan in Italy.
