Warming Up
Thursday 22nd February 2007

I had a much better day today. I made hardly any ridiculous errors and was a lot more relaxed and at times felt like a proper actor. Yesterday had been quite stressful at times and everyone had been worn down by the hard work and tedium, but today the mood was lighter, even though we still had lots to get through. There was plenty of laughter and too much chattering between takes, to the annoyance of the 1st Assistant Director, Sam, who was just trying to get his work done. But it's great that we are bonding and Delyth, our director has said that we were looking like a real family.

Today flew by though. We are lucky to have extremely an extremely good catering van providing us with breakfast and lunch. After getting up at 5.30 and starting work at 8, we are all really looking forward to lunch by midday. Today we started speculating about what might be on the menu. Thinking about approaching food really keeps one going, which wouldn't be the case if the food was rank, but today turned out to be some rather lovely Morroccan Lamb with cous cous, which was almost what Gordon and Tony had guessed. There had been jokey speculation that pudding would be Spotted Dick and that is what we got. I am not sure I have ever actually eaten this comedic dessert before, but on a cold day with a bit of custard it was perfection. Plus I made the easily pleased Tony Bignell laugh when I finished my main course and said, "I want some dick."

Lunch is a little oasis of paradise in the middle of the day. I spend almost half of the day thinking about it and then the other half of the day thinking about what will be for lunch tomorrow. We also get to eat lunch on a communal double decker bus. It's like being on a proper TV show.

Yesterday I wasn't sure I wanted to be an actor, but today I loved it again. And as we get closer as a cast the possibility of doing a whole series seems really wonderful and the prospect that it might end up being a one off is a little hard to bear. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We're not even at the end of the first week and we might all hate each other by the end.

I wonder what will be for lunch tomorrow. I am going to guess at steak and kidney pie. but what I might do is ask the caterers for the full lunch menu at breakfast, so that when we start guessing at midday I can correctly identify all three main courses and both puddings. And I can start working on puns about them to make Tony Bignell laugh. Hopefully the pudding will be a cream horn. I have a joke for that already.
