Smithers (our boy cat) has taken one of Phoebe’s little teddy bears and has started carrying around the house in his mouth. Either he thinks this tiny teddy is his baby, which is pretty funny or more likely he thinks he has killed the teddy bear and is holding on to it as a trophy. Which is more funny. His pride at having mothered/murdered this little cuddly toy is in sharp contrast to the fact that it is a cute tiny toy.
But how do I respond. If he thinks it’s a baby then I should offer him some sympathy, especially because he will never bear any actual kittens, partly because I have had him spayed and mainly because he’s (or was) a male cat. If he thinks he’s killed a teddy bear then I should surely be a bit cross with him for fear he dispatches another innocent fluffy toy. I have to teach him that that is wrong. Also if he think he can take on bears and comes across an actual bear, he may discover that he isn’t quite as tough as he thinks.
My cat is a fucking idiot.
I slightly regretted drinking last night, but only slightly. It made the drive to Clevedon a bit trickier than it might have been and I wasn’t feeling full of energy before the gig. It was a slightly odd set-up as I was playing the Curzon cinema in town and not only had the Avengers: Age of Ultron gone up late, meaning I couldn’t get into the space when I arrived, but there was also a set of wooden steps - essentially a ladder - up to the stage and no wings. So I was going to have to start the show climbing up this ladder. Which made it hard to make an entrance. Or easy to make a funny entrance.
I wasn’t sure comedy was going to work in this room and I certainly hadn’t sold out, but after a late flurry of ticket sales and a climb up a ladder it turned out to be a great gig in spite of my reservations and my hangover.  And another great venue run by enthusiastic staff. I hope I get a chance to go back. It would have been almost the perfect gig for me if I still lived in Cheddar!

The kickstarter pushes onwards and upwards, though I am not sure we’re going to make it. By the end of today we were over a quarter of the way there, but it still requires over £1000 a day for the next fortnight for us to get close. And it’s all or nothing. It’s only going to take about 900 people for us to hit the target and the podcast gets 150,000 downloads. But though my heart says yes (and I am amazed and delighted by the response so far), my head says maybe not. Let’s see how close we can get. It is, if nothing else, quite exciting.  Massively appreciate the generosity and support of those of you who are already in.
