Out early this morning for a dog walk and decided to do an impromptu stone clearing podcast - it’s always best when even I don’t know it’s about to happen. Spontaneity is the key to keeping this format fresh and today you’re treated to the bizarre spectacle of me taking about 15 minutes to drive my car maybe 100 metres down my street and at one point thinking my dog might be on fire. You don’t get that in many stone clearing podcasts.
I should probably do a stone clearing podcast that just carries on for a couple of hours into my regular day. It’s fun when it leaks into the real world. Eventually it will become a 24 hour a day podcast. And only the most committed of you will be able to keep up with that and only if you sleep when I sleep.
And if you sleep when I sleep you’ll miss some of the real gold.

I will be driving into town all this week to record Relativity and was so ashamed by the dirtiness of my car and mortified by the idea of Alison Steadman having to see it, that I took it to the garden centre where the team of mainly European carwashers (hey we’re all European til next month) attacked the dirt with an impressive ferocity. This time they did the inside as well as the outside. I was lost in admiration for their work ethic and their hatred of grime in any place in the car (one man removed the tray bit in my drinks holder and pressure washed it for a couple of minutes to remove whatever weird food stuff or unguent had become encrusted on it. Alison Steadman will not be able to believe the cleanliness of my car. Unless she doesn’t notice it. Or it gets dirty on the drive in. By Friday it will be filthy again. I bet that’s when she looks at it.
I printed up all the scripts tonight (double-sided, I’m not a monster) so I could read through and make notes on any errors. Looking at that huge pile of paper (240 sides) I realised what a huge amount I have managed to get done in the last five months (on and off). I mean it’s not an achievement unless what I’ve written is not shit, but we’ll find that out in the week.
I only read one script though and then felt too overwhelmed to check the others. We can do it in the studio. So I did all that printing for nothing. I AM a monster.
Looking forward to the fun part though. It’s been a long old trek to get this far.
